Obvara Seahorse Vase
These creations were made using a violent Raku technique called Obvara. The process entails thrusting the 1600 degree piece of pottery into a mixture of water, flour, yeast, and sugar. As you can expect there is an immediate chemical reaction that produces a wonderful aged appearance. I like to imagine these were excavated from the ruins of Pompeii.
Obviously these have multiple cracks and crazing over the entire piece small bits may have exploded off during the process. They can not hold water and are not food safe.
This Seahorse Vase measures approximately 18" tall x9" wide
