Raku Goat pitcher
This piece has been through the firing process called Raku. The process involves bringing the glazed piece up to 1850 degrees and then taking it directly from the heated kiln to a reduction chamber filled with flammables. When the chamber is on fire it is then covered to smother the flames and reduce the oxygen which gives the piece a beautifully random glazed effect.
As expected with a Raku firing, the thermal shock coming out of the kiln is extreme. This produces small cracks in the vessel and crazing in the glaze. These are not flaws but add to the beauty of the piece, However it is not food safe. Size is Approximately 15"tall.

Octopus Wall Tile (SOLD)
I originally created this series for my own personal kitchen in my new house. (that hasn't been built yet). I wanted to build a kitchen wall tiled with three dimensional creatures interspersed throughout to captivate and make an unforgettable statement.
I was inspired by the vintage illustrations of Albertus Seba. His drawings are incredibly detailed and often they portray greatly exaggerated features.
I received such great feedback I decided to make some for my fans who asked if I could make them with a wire to hang.
Here you go! This one is 16" x 16".

Wood-fired Giant Octopus Vase
This wood fired Giant Octopus Vase was fired for a total of 6 days and reached temperatures higher than 2350 degrees. It takes an entire team of people working around the clock in shifts to continually feed the flames. At times it actually breathes like dragon spitting and retracting flames from the mouth. One of the main desired outcomes from these types of wood-firings is the liquidation of ash in the kiln. The effect is a beautiful drip pattern that is completely random and unpredictable.
The kiln is called an Anagama and is big enough to host a dinner party inside. (See Picture)
This piece is quite large and measures 26"tall x about 15" diameter.

Raku Horse Pitcher with actual Horse Hair (SOLD)
This vessel is designed after our Tennessee Walking horse Sookie. I even finished it with some of her own tail hair. The process is a type of Raku firing.
The vessel is heated to 1250 degrees then taken out of the electric kiln and draped with horse hair to create a carbon burn trail. Check out the video of its creation HERE .
Due to the nature of the firing this piece is porous and therefore not food safe.
Raku Sea Dragon Pitcher (SOLD)
This Sea Dragon Pitcher is modeled after a real creature called the Leafy SeaDragon It is closely related to a seahorse. The firing process is called Raku.
Size is roughly 22" tall x 10" wide.
Mottled Green Table Octopus (SOLD)
This is a one of a kind glaze technique I used on the octopus. The effect given is a wonderful mottled green which "breaks" over the texture of the octopus skin. The suckers are covered in a darker green for contrast.
This sculpture is made from white sculpture clay. It is designed to sit flat on table. Size is Aprx.16" diameter and 7" tall.
Ocean Blue Textured Table Octopus (sold)
This Octopus is made from white sculpture clay painted with a dark brown slip. The texture is created with liquid clay spattered across the octopus to create the illusion of skin.
The glaze used is on the textured skin is Ocean Blue with Green Rutile in the suckers for contrast.
Organic Wall Octopus (SOLD)
This Octopus is made from a white sculpture clay. It has a wire in the bottom and can either be hung from a wall or lay flat on a table.
The rustic look is created using a patina. The patina is heavily brushed on then strategically wiped off.
